This is "Brasso," aka Joey Welsh. All you Huey pilots and crewmen out there might think you really love the UH-1, but from what I hear, you ain't got nothing on guys like this. Rangers, LRRPs, SF dudes...to say the Huey got a few of them out of a jam is a major understatement. (Once we overheard a Ranger tell a Dustoff pilot that he'd not only buy him a beer; he'd buy him a house.)

Lately Brasso's been challenging my foggy memories of Latin 101 (freshman year, Southwestern University) to see if I can translate these phrases:
Sine Pari
Sua Sponte
De Oppresso Liber
(Uh, sorry, Prof, it's been a while.) Can anyone help me out? Got a guess? And can you explain why these phrases are in this post? Leave it here.

Jane, Not bad, but let's break it down some.
1.Sine Pari....'WITHOUT EQUAL"
2. Sua Sponte..... No answer/or if you put one in for it , it's wrong. I think you might have overlooked that one.
3. De Oppresso Liber...."TO LIBERATE THE OPPRESSED".

Saberblue, very good statement that you made up from them three phrases; however, as stated in the contest, you must figure out how the statements relate to the picture. The actual object of the contest was to come up with the meaning of each individual statement and then try and relate it to the article and pictures. If you had read the article, it was about Special Operations/ Rangers/ LRP etc. The intent was to translate the phrases and then relate that they were linked to the military units mentioned in the article as mottos -- something very difficult to do unless you have military experience. They are "SINE PARI"= Without Equal which is the motto for the U.S. Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) which is the major command of all Special Ops in the Army. "DE OPPRESSO LIBER" = To Liberate The Oppressed which is the motto for the Special Forces. "SUA SPONTE" = Of Their Own Accord which is the motto for the US Army Rangers. Every major unit in the Army has a crest which is designed over the years and a motto is chosen to represent what the unit does or stands for.
